This is an improvement on the basic random wire antenna. It uses coax for the lead in so it is virtually immune to picking up random noise in the shack. It also uses a 9:1 transformer to lower the high impedance of the antenna to a level more reasonable for the coax. The transformer also decouples the feed line from the lead in preventing noise picked up on the shield from being transmitted back into the antenna and then into your radio.
